Guang Huan Mi Zong Cause and Effect Sutra

	Preface

The Cause and Effect Sutra has been spread extensively for a long time. During the Dharma Vanishing Era, it promotes good social orders via educating people to do good deeds and retain merits. It also constitutes positive effects in respect of facilitating a stable society, eliminating evils and improving the self-control mechanism of beings. Should anyone propagate it widely, one’s merits will become immeasurable.

If you want to know the Karma of your previous life,
The present consequences have make you clear demonstration.
If you wish to know the merits of you future life,
The deeds performed in present life have given you the determination;

How can one eliminate one’s Karma hindrances?
Eradicating the roots of the Three Poisons is the answer.
Drugs and medicine cannot cure Karma diseases,
Vexation and pains always drive people to death;

Samadhi Dharma can get rid the roots of sufferings,
Much better than spending millions of money elsewhere;
Nobody can take your place to receive the karma of ages,
Only the one planting the causes can remove the hindrances;

Guang Huan Mi Zong rescues the people in this world,
with its supremacy for disaster eliminated and fortune fostered;
Should you wholeheartedly beseech and convert to its Dharma,
Quick effects highly praised by the masses will be gained.

With the preserving of the Guang Huan Mi Zong Cause and Effect Sutra,
World peace and prosperity for all professions can be obtained;
With the preserving of the Guang Huan Mi Zong Cause and Effect Sutra,
The sufferings of the Karma cause can be finally exempted.

Causes and consequences are not small matters,
Neither dismiss nor forget the Buddha’s true words.

What is the cause of holding a high government office in this life?
Propagating virtuous dharma in a previous life.
What is the cause of having good fortune and wealth in this life?
Listening and practicing Buddhist dharma in a previous life.
What is the cause of having good health and long life?
Practicing esoteric dharma and striving for enlightenment.
What is the cause of an easy and peaceful life?
Performing virtuous and moral deeds in every past life.
What is the cause of being able to live in affluence?
Building temples and making offerings to the Buddha.
What is the cause of being able to travel by plane and car?
Donating money for the construction of temples.
What is the cause of being able to wear silk and satin?
Decorating Buddha statues with gold for three past lives.
What is the cause of living in luxurious high-rise buildings?
Donating rice to the “God of Earth Temple” in a previous life.
What is the cause of having bright eyes in the present life?
Contributing lamp oil to light the Buddha’s lamp in a previous life.
What is the cause of a dignified appearance?
Offering flowers to the Buddha in a previous life.
What is the cause of having both parents alive?
Paying respect to Buddhist worshipers in a previous life.
What is the cause of having talented descendants?
Worshiping and making offerings to the Buddha.
What is the cause of having incurable diseases in this life?
Destroying a temple that resulted in bad karma.

It is the consequence of killing sentient beings in a previous life.

Disrespecting the Buddha in a previous life.
What is the cause of lacking food and clothing?
Reluctance to donate even a penny to the Buddha.

Not performing good deeds and having bad karma.

Committing all sorts of evil deeds in a previous life.

Cruelty and killing in a previous life.
What is the cause of blindness in this life?
It is the consequence of ignoring the Buddha in a previous life.

Cheating and harming others in a previous life.
What is the cause of having many illnesses in this life?
Disrespecting the Buddha in a previous life.

It is the consequence of committing robbery in a previous life.

It is the consequence of not repaying debts in a previous life.

Teasing Buddhist worshipers in a previous life.
What is the cause of having harelip in this life?
It is the consequence of spreading gossip in a previous life.
What is the cause of being deaf and dumb in this life?
It is the consequence of cursing others in a previous life.

Committing murder for money in a previous life.
What is the cause of a destitute life?
Being unwilling to donate to others in a previous life.
What is the cause of a lonely and helpless life?
It is the consequence of evil plots against others in a previous life.
What is the cause of a stinking body?
Contaminating the Buddha’s body in a previous life.
What is the cause of being haunted by evil spirits?
Harming others to benefit oneself in a previous life.
What is the cause of being struck by thunder and burned by fire?
Slandering monks and nuns in a previous life.

Who says there is no retribution of virtuous and sinful deeds?
Wealth and nobility are different from poverty and lowliness.
The effects of the present life is formed in the past three lives,
Retaining merits will lead to good fortune and longevity.
Decorating Buddha statues with gold will benefit oneself;
Building a God of Earth Temple will benefit the descendants.
Do not take the present life for granted;
It will never be attained without cultivation in previous lives.
For those who write and spread the Cause and Effect Sutra,
Their family will prosper for generations.
For those who chant the Cause and Effect Sutra,
They will be highly respected by others in a future life.
For those who disseminate the Cause and Effect Sutra,
They will be blessed and born with merits in a future life.
Causes and effects of the past, present and future lives are infinite;
The retribution of virtuous and sinful deeds provides the proof.

Doing good deeds and rescuing lives can obtain merits,
Which help to avoid suffering in hell.
If you want to change your karma and protect your descendants,
build a God of Earth Temple in your present life.
